HIAS Winter Ball Games
In order to promote sports exchanges among schools and enhance students' friendships through competition, the one-month 2021 HIAS Winter Ball Games was held in the Party School of the CPC Hangzhou Municipal Committee.
The match was sponsored by the Youth League Committee of Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study, UCAS, and co-organized by HIAS Graduate Union, HIAS Basketball Club, HIAS Badminton Association, and HIAS Table Tennis Association.
The competition consisted of three major events, including a basketball points league, a table tennis individual event, and a badminton team event. After three weeks of fierce competition, the match was concluded recently. The players showed their passion and energy in each event, attracting many students to cheer for them.

The basketball league adopted apoint-based competition system, in which four teams from eight schools competed with each other, namely the School of Smart Science and Technology-School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology Team, the School of Life and Health Sciences-School of Fundamental Physics and Mathematical Sciences Team, the School of Environment-School of Chemistry and Material Sciences Team, and the School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering-School of Molecular Medicine Team.
Every game on the basketball field was very wonderful. The players worked to win points for their respective teams through their excellent dribbling and shooting skills, and the students cheered for them.
Wonderful Moment
It is worth mentioning that in the match, in addition to the handsome male players, we can also see the energetic female players among them. With their outstanding skills, they have shown the courage of girls.
As the referee blew the final whistle at the end of the last match, the School of Environment-School of Chemistry and Material Sciences Team became the champion of the basketball league. The School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering-School of Molecular Medicine Team, the School of Smart Science and Technology-School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology Team, and the School of Life and Health Sciences-School of Fundamental Physics and Mathematical Sciences Team won the second, third, and fourth places respectively. After the match, the atmosphere on the field gradually became relaxing, and the players of each team clapped and hugged each other. That fully reflected the sound competitive spirit that friendship rather than winning matters.

Table Tennis Individual Event
Table Tennis Individual Event
In this game, 25 students signed up for men's singles, 10 for women's singles, and 8 groups of students for mixed doubles.
On the afternoon of November 13, players of men's singles and women's singles were divided into 6 and 2 groups respectively for round robin, and the top two of each group were determined after the fierce competition.
On the afternoon of November 20, different groups of men's and women's singles had the cross knockout; teams of mixed doubles were divided into two groups for the knockout after the round robin; players of men's singles competed for the final 6, final 3, and the championship.In the end, Zhu Guozheng won the championship through his excellent and stable performance, and Zhang Xuguang and Li Cong won runner-up and second runner-up respectively.
Wonderful Moment
It is worth mentioning that Zhu Guozheng lost two rounds when he competed with Xia Leyi for the final 3. Then, he turned the table by winning three rounds in a row and finally won the championship. When competing for the runner-up, Zhang Xuguang had a strong forehand with the penhold grip and pimple-out rubber, while mastering the backhand with pimple-in rubber. As a result, Li Cong lost as he was unfamiliar with Zhang Xuguang's style.
However, as the players of women's singles were equally skilled, some of them tied for second place in both groups except for the champions. Thus, a round-robin was added for the final 1. After a hard battle, Ye Chenyuan stood out among many masters and was placed in the top three. Unfortunately, she won the second runner-up as she lost to Kang Wanhui, who was skillful with a handshake grip, backhand, and pimple-in rubber, and Ye Fenfen with a penhold grip, backhand, and pimple-in rubber. Finally, Kang Wanhui beat Ye Fenfen and won the championship.
The mixed doubles match was also fierce. In the end, Kang Wanhui and Tian Yao won the championship, Ye Chenyuan and Zhu Guozheng the runner-up, and Zhou Qianqian and Zhang Xuguang the second runner-up.

Badminton Team Event
Badminton Team Event
The badminton event consisted of an AB group match, semi-final, and final. The top two teams with the highest points in the group match would compete in the final, and then the final top three would be determined.
The competition included five items: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles.
Wonderful Moment
In the first week's competition, the first to fourth places in Group A were from the School of Smart Science and Technology, the School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology, and the School of Fundamental Physics and Mathematical Sciences respectively.
In the second week's competition, the first to fourth places in Group B were from the School of Environment, the School of Chemistry and Material Sciences, the School of Life and Health Sciences, and the School of Molecular Medicine. After the fierce two-week competition, four teams from the School of Smart Science and Technology, the School of Chemistry and Material Sciences, the School of Environment, and the School of Chemistry and Material Sciences competed in the final.
The final was based on the best three out of five and each game on the best two of three with 21 points. Those who won three games first would be the winners. Through a series of fierce and exciting competitions, the School of Environment won the championship, the School of Smart Science and Technology the runner-up, and the School of Chemistry and Material Sciences the second runner-up. The players went all out to participate in each badminton match. Even if their clothes were soaked by their sweat, they immersed themselves in the game, since they deeply loved badminton.

"Epilogue"-
The success of the HIAS Winter Ball Games is attributed to the strong support of the Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study, UCAS and the active participation and cooperation of all students.
This match has enriched the extracurricular life of students, enhanced the cohesion and centripetal force among students of various schools, showed the spiritual outlook of the students who worked hard and never gave up, and also laid a solid foundation for other group activities in the future.
