The salon revolved around Lu Xun's collection of essaysDawn Blossoms Plucked at Dusk, and consisted of four parts: "Introduction", "Sharing", "Dialogue" and "Concluding Remarks".The host Xia Zherui started the salon with an introduction to topic selection and its significance, following which eleven faculty members such as Liu Xiangqian from the School of Chemistry and Materials Science, Liu Hui from the School of Pharmacy, Gao Di from the Academic Affairs Department, and Dai Chaoying from the Scientific Research Office, shared their insights and reflections on certain essays based on their life or work experience. The event featured an animated atmosphere where participants were widely inspired by the views shared. Such famous essays as "Mr. Fujino" and "From Baicao Garden to Sanwei Study" were frequently referred to and interpreted in light of the historical background and literary devices. Some participants expressed their admiration for Lu Xun for his patriotic and revolutionary spirit based on their experience of studying abroad and recent events across the world. Some faculty members who did not share in the previous session offered comments and new insights in the "Dialogue" part.

At the end of the event, Zheng Chonghui voiced his views on the salon. He thought that it was of great significance to the cultural life of the faculty members of HIAS, encouraged them to read more good books, and expected them to obtain spiritual happiness from reading. The charm of books will bond people together. Zheng Chonghui also expressed his expectations for the next reading salon. He hoped that this event could serve as a "new starting point" for the trade union of HIAS, and such salons be held regularly to edify all.
