On the morning of June 18, 2021, Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study (HIAS), UCAS held the firstHIAS "Frontier Intersection and Future Innovation" Young Scholar Salon. Focusing on cross-innovation, the salon adheres to the spirit of "pragmatism, truth-seeking, cooperation and innovation". It aims to promote academic exchanges between young researchers of different fields and between young researchers and senior researchers, so as to create sparkle of inspiration. With the theme of"Environment and Health", this salon was sponsored by Scientific Research and Platform Management Department and undertaken by the School of Environment (SoE).
On behalf of SoE, ResearcherFu Jianjie introduced the mission and vision of SoE to the participants, emphasizing that environmental science intersects with multidisciplinary frontiers. He looked forward to promoting cross-study in the field of environment and health through this event and strengthening exchanges and cooperation among schools. Based on her rich experience in Metabolomics, Dr.Zhu Nali from SoE elaborated on the application of lipidomics as a new research tool to study the molecular mechanisms of environmental exposure and health. Dr.Jin Rong from SoE shared her academic findings on the sources of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and health risks based on high sensitivity analysis of specific POPs, source list of POPs in recycled copper smelting, and occurrence in a typical area.
ResearcherLiu Xiaoping from the Key Laboratory of Systems Biology delivered a report entitled "Sample-specific Network-based Biological Data Analysis". In a vivid way, he explained his research on gene regulatory network of complex diseases, the method and analysis of sample-specific network construction, and causal inference. Dr.Xu Xuesen from the School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering introduced the research and progress of Chang'e-5 returning to the lunar soil, the realization method and scientific significance of nondestructive measurement of bidirectional reflection spectra of trace lunar soil samples, and hoped to conduct multi-dimensional comprehensive research on lunar soil with researchers from other schools. Based on the theme and their own experience, participants put forward constructive cooperation ideas in omics data analysis, online monitoring of pollutants, and extraterrestrial environment research after heated discussion and in-depth communication.
A nation will prosper only when its young people thrive. HIAS will also develop with the struggle and innovation of its young researchers. Young Scholar Salon is not only an important platform for personal development, but also a bridge to gather strength. HIAS will continue to hold such salons on a regular basis around the needs of young researchers' development plans, frontiers of disciplines, innovative cooperation, and platform teams, making"Frontier Intersection and Future Innovation" unique to HIAS.
