On the morning of May 20, Zhang Zhongcan, Deputy Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group and Vice Chairman of the CPPCC Hangzhou Municipal Committee, led a delegation to visit Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study (HIAS), UCAS, a major project contact point, for investigation. Other members of this delegation have included Sun Jiangang, Zhou Yang, Zheng Jianbo, Pang Jinlei, Xiao Feng, Yang Jianhua, Lu Bin, Sun Qingfeng, Yan Bin, and Mou Jian, leaders from the municipal departments, and Ye Ze and Shao Xiaojun, heads of the departments of Xihu District. The delegation has been accompanied by Wang Jianyu, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and President of HIAS, Ma Lisong, Secretary of the Party Committee of HIAS, and Zheng Chonghui, Executive Vice President of HIAS.
HIAS is an important achievement ofHangzhou's efforts to promote the project for famous universities, colleges and research institutes. Since its settlement in Hangzhou in May 2019, HIAS, based on the goal of building a small yethigh-quality institute at a high standard, has inherited and carried forward the distinctive characteristics of CAS and UCAS's systems in scientific research, talent training and innovation and entrepreneurship. It has also built scientific research and innovation platforms and talent training bases in the three fields of physical information, life & health and intelligent technology centering on China's major needs and demand for regional socio-economic development. It will continue to provide support for Hangzhou to build a comprehensive national science center and promote high-quality socio-economic development.
At the symposium, Wang Jianyu first extended a warm welcome to Zhang Zhongcan and his delegation. Then he, on behalf of HIAS's management, expressed sincere thanks to the CPPCC Hangzhou Municipal Committee and Vice Chairman Zhang Zhongcan for their long-term concern and strong support for HIAS.
After listening to Zheng Chonghui's report on HIAS, Zhang Zhongcan fully affirmed the preliminary work of HIAS. He praised that in the past two years, HIAS steadily promoted all aspects of construction as per the predetermined goals under the strong support of the municipal Party committee, the municipal people's government, and the Party committee and the people's government of Xihu District. It made them thrilled to eye HIAS's remarkable achievements, such as having two laboratories shortlisted for provincial key laboratories and two sessions of postgraduate students successfully enrolled. To address HIAS's difficulties in promoting the overall work of campus area planning and construction and other work, Zhang Zhongcan and other participants carefully discussed the causes of these problems and analyzed the main crux. In addition, on-site coordination was conducted among the Office of Famous Universities, Colleges and Research Institutes, the municipal development and reform commission, the People's Government of Xihu District and other agencies to actively innovate ideas and overcome the difficulties through cooperation. He required all relevant agencies to shoulder responsibilities, make backward scheduling and refine the plans as per the deployment requirements of the CPC municipal committee and the municipal people's government by seizing the opportunity of carrying out the "Seven Ones" special practical activity for Party history learning and education. He demanded that full support and guarantee be provided for HIAS's construction. The CPPCC Hangzhou Municipal Committee should actively play its role. It should continuously pay attention to and support the construction and development of HIAS, contributing wisdom to building up the city's advantages in the innovation and entrepreneurship environment.
