"Future Scientists"—China's First Frontier Science Enlightenment Resource Public Welfare Platform

Project field: Modern service

Person in charge:Feng Yue (School of Environment)

Members:Li Shiyu, Zhao Jing, Gu Luyao (School of Environment), Zhang Jialin (Postdoctoral fellow of the School of Life and Health Sciences)

The project team consists of first-year graduate students from the School of Environment and a postdoctoral fellow from the School of Life and Health Sciences of HIAS. They are not only the first batch of HIAS students, but also the first team that won awards on behalf of HIAS in innovation and entrepreneurship competitions. Within one year after the competition, the project can apply for a fund of up to RMB 1 million to support its implementation in Hangzhou.

The project aims to improve the scientific literacy of middle school students in China, and is committed to providing popular science education and science-related experience for middle school students. Youths are the future of the country and the hope of the nation. If the youths are wise, the country will be wise. If the youths are strong, the country will be strong. To make the youths strong, we must focus on cultivating them with basic education, and especially improving their scientific literacy and innovation ability. In response to the call of General Secretary Xi Jinping, education should "cultivate the roots, forge the soul, enlighten the intellect and moisten the heart". The project team hopes to build a more professional and leading science popularization platform for middle school students, carry out professional science popularization education for junior and senior high school students aged 10-18 with basic knowledge reserves, and cultivate their scientific research thinking. The project relies on the HIAS as a supporting platform, and has received long-term assistance from many experts and professors in various fields. At present, the operation strategy and development plan have been formulated. By allowing middle school students to listen to the stories of scientists and the sciences in the eyes of big scientists, this project can cultivate these students' lofty ideals of setting up ambitious goals, and broaden their scientific horizons. Let middle school students truly participate in laboratory research, really visit and experience the research content of different disciplines, guide them to make correct professional choices in the future, stimulate their scientific research interest, and help them cultivate the spirit of exploration. A stronger motherland needs a steady stream of talented youths. The team hopes to work with social forces to create a sustainable platform for "cultivating the roots, forging the soul, enlightening the intellect, and increasing the wisdom".

COVID-19-specific Plasma Sterilizer

Project field:Health care

Person in charge:Deng Rujie (School of Fundamental Physics and Mathematical Sciences)

Members: Liang Mingtao, Xie Fei, Zhang Yujie, Zhang Qiangtao, Zhang Yibin, Yang Zhilan, Zhang Cheng (School of Fundamental Physics and Mathematical Sciences), He Weiguo (Postdoctoral fellow of the School of Fundamental Physics and Mathematical Sciences), Pan Yihui (School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology)

Relying on the support of the HIAS, the project team is undertaken by the School of Fundamental Physics and Mathematical Sciences, with a reasonable team structure and strong strength. Among them, there are high-level mentors and technical support personnel from the Plasma Sources and Applications Centre of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore who have been employed for more than 10 years, a doctor of mechanical engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University as a technical consultant, 8 postgraduate students from the School of Basic Physics and Mathematical Sciences and 1 postgraduate student from the School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology.

In view of the normalized development of the current pandemic situation and the raise of people's health awareness, it means that the project will have a larger market for personal and social COVID-19 prevention. However, traditional disinfection methods are not only complicated and costly, but also require a large number of disinfection materials. Therefore, based on the in-depth study on the mechanism of virus inactivation, this project proposes to use plasma technology to disinfect SARS-CoV-2. The project focuses on the current characteristics of the transmission of COVID-19 through "object-to-person" contact and is committed to solving the industry's demand for disinfection of objects to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.

Its main characteristics include high-efficiency killing against SARS-CoV-2; low use cost; innovative self-design of a more efficient plasma generator; original waste gas purification technology to ensure that toxic groups do not leak and are harmless to the human body; wide application scenarios. After the company was registered by taking advantage of the China Hangzhou University Student Entrepreneurship Competition, it aims to produce plasma disinfection equipment for COVID-19, improve the disinfection effect, reduce the disinfection cost, and realize the large-scale promotion of products. With the world's cutting-edge plasma technology as the core, we meet customers' requirements from multiple aspects, provide partners and customers with integrated solutions for plasma COVID-19 prevention equipment design and product development, and make contributions to the complete elimination of COVID-19 by human beings. We strive to become a leading company in the field of COVID-19 disinfection equipment within five years, with "innovation" as the core and market demand and customer requirements as the orientation, so as to realize the large-scale and rapid promotion of products.

The award-winning news injects confidence and strength into our further implementation of "One Core and Two Wings" development strategy and the introduction and cultivation of "international, innovative, entrepreneurial and compound" high-level talents. With the strong support of HIAS, the careful guidance of teachers, and the unremitting efforts of the team, I believe that the shortlisted projects will definitely achieve better results in the semi-finals and write a new chapter in the innovation and entrepreneurship of HIAS students.
