On the morning of January 12, Mao Xihao, a member of the Standing Committee and Director of the Organization Department of the CPC Hangzhou Municipal Committee, and his delegation visited the Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study (HIAS) of the UCAS for investigation and guidance. Wang Jianyu, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and President of HIAS, Ma Lisong, Secretary of the Party Committee, Zheng Chonghui, Executive Vice President of HIAS, and Shen Wei, Director of the Office of HIAS Preparation Leading Group, accompanied the delegation and attended the symposium.

Before the symposium, Mao Xihao sent flowers to Wang Jianyu and expressed his cordial care and sympathy.

After listening to the work report of HIAS, Mao Xihao was delighted with the achievements made by HIAS since its establishment, and highly affirmed and praised HIAS for achieving a "zero-to-one" breakthrough in postgraduate enrollment, initially building a scientific research system, gradually starting special cooperation, actively planning mass entrepreneurship and innovation activities, and simultaneously promoting party building. He put forward several requirements for HIAS's work in the next stage: First, HIAS should enrich its connotation. It should not only appropriately expand the enrollment scale according to its actual situation, but also accelerate the construction of scientific research institutions, so as to exert two-way efforts in talent training and scientific research. Second, HIAS should create advantages, clarify the school-running route on the basis of further exploring the resources of the CAS and UCAS, and strive to create advantageous disciplines and school-running characteristics. Third, HIAS should deepen cooperation, closely follow local needs, promote school-enterprise cooperation, give full play to the advantages of private enterprises in Hangzhou, and help HIAS make substantial progress in mass entrepreneurship and innovation. Fourth, HIAS should strengthen matchmaking, actively promote close contact with relevant provincial and municipal departments and close cooperation with Zhejiang Lab, and strengthen external publicity to expand the influence and popularity of HIAS. Fifth, HIAS should strengthen the building of the leadership team, make concerted efforts, take responsibility, and lead HIAS to unite and do a good job in HIAS development. At the same time, it is necessary to build a solid line of defense against corruption, relying on both mechanisms and self-discipline, following the up-to-down leadership principle that covers all employees, and striving to create a clean and upright working environment.

At the symposium, Wang Jianyu first extended a warm welcome to Director Mao Xihao and his delegation, expressed his heartfelt thanks to the CPC Hangzhou Municipal Committee and Hangzhou Municipal People's Government for their long-term concern for HIAS, and introduced the current construction situation and work progress of HIAS in detail from the following five aspects: enrollment and teaching, scientific research system construction, innovation and entrepreneurship, party building and mass organization work, and cooperation with Zhejiang Lab. Wang Jianyu said that HIAS has encountered a lot of difficulties since its establishment, which can be said to be an arduous task. However, all HIAS personnel have successfully completed various preparatory and construction tasks regardless of hardships and perils. They united as one, and overcome various difficulties. The achievements made today are also obvious, which are inseparable from the strong support of the CPC Hangzhou Municipal Committee and the Hangzhou Municipal People's Government. In the next stage, it is hoped that the CPC Hangzhou Municipal Committee and Hangzhou Municipal People's Government will continue to pay attention to and support the construction and development of HIAS, put forward more valuable suggestions, give more care and guidance, provide more policy support, jointly help the high-quality development of HIAS to a new level, and jointly create a better future for cooperation between famous universities and cities.
