Xu Hong is a Level-III professor in Nursing, master's supervisor, and dean of the Institute of Health and Nursing of Hangzhou Normal University.
She is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and a senior member of the Chinese Nursing Association. She has been engaged in clinical nursing for 17 years and nursing education for 23 years. She is one of the first full-time teachers of higher nursing education to obtain the professor title in Zhejiang Province, one of the few Level-III professors in nursing, and one of the first group of master's supervisors in nursing in Zhejiang Province. She is also the first nursing supervisor in Zhejiang Province to become a visiting scholar, the first nursing educator in Zhejiang Province to win the Science and Technology Award of the provincial government, and the first nursing educator in the province to be sent abroad for advanced study and training. She served as the ICU head nurse for nine years, and was one of the founders of the School of Nursing of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University. In 2009, she was introduced to Hangzhou Normal University as the leader of the nursing discipline and the first nursing professor, serving as deputy dean of the School of Medicine, deputy director of the Graduate Student Department, deputy director of the Discipline Department, deputy dean and deputy secretary in charge of work of the School of Nursing, and director of the Doctoral Training and Construction Office. She is so far the only person in charge of the provincial-level quality course "Critical Care and Emergency Nursing". She is also the first contributor to the first local standard for elderly care and the industry and local standards for maternal and child care in Zhejiang Province.
She holds posts at the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Civil Affairs, and serves as vice chairperson, vice president, group leader, and vice chairwoman at institutions such as the Chinese Nursing Association, the National Presidents' Alliance of Integration of Medical Care and Nursing Services, the Elderly Care and Intelligence Branch of Chinese Aging Well Association, the Chinese Association of Health Promotion and Education, the Steering Committee of Undergraduate Nursing Education of Zhejiang Province, the Technical Committee on Social Elderly Care Services of Standardization Administration of Zhejiang, the Elderly Care Committee of Zhejiang Nursing Association, and the Hangzhou Alliance for Preventive Treatment of Diseases. She is also a core specialist, advisor, and evaluation expert of governments and institutions in the fields of nursing education, critical care and emergency nursing, elderly care services and standardization, preventive treatment of diseases, and health management, as well as an executive member of the editorial boards and reviewer of five magazines including Chinese Journal of Nursing Education.
She is the editor-in-chief of 20 textbooks, including the national planning textbooks, audio-visual materials, and bilingual textbooks for undergraduate education during the 11th Five-Year Plan and 13th Five-Year Plan periods, the provincial key planning textbooks Emergency Nursing and Critical Care and Emergency Nursing, and the pre-hospital emergency care training book First Aid Skills for volunteers at the G20 Hangzhou Summit. In recent years, she has presided over and participated in more than 30 projects at the national, provincial and ministerial levels, and published more than 60 papers, including 10 winning teaching achievement awards at the provincial, ministerial, municipal and school levels and 2 patented by the State.
