Ma Jianqing is a Level-II professor, doctor, and doctoral supervisor of Zhejiang University, and a Distinguished Scholar of Zhejiang University. He is an expert enjoying special government allowances from the State Council. In 1987, he established the Psychological Counseling Center of Zhejiang University and served as director of the center for more than 20 years. He is currently a member of the Expert Steering Committee on Mental Health Education for College Students of the Ministry of Education, deputy director of the College Students' Psychological Counseling Committee, and deputy director of the Psychological Counselor Committee of the Chinese Association for Mental Health. He is one of the first group of registered supervisors of the Chinese Psychological Society and one of the first group of certified supervisors of the Chinese Association for Mental Health. He is the author or editor-in-chief of more than 30 works and textbooks on psychological counseling and mental health education, and has published more than 100 papers. He has presided over more than 20 national, provincial and ministerial projects. His research achievements have won many awards, including the second prize of the Outstanding Achievement Award of the Ministry of Education and the first prize of the Teaching Achievement Award of the Zhejiang provincial government. He is the person in charge of national quality courses and national quality resource sharing courses.

With outstanding performance in psychological assistance after the Wenchuan earthquake, he was awarded the honorary title National Model for Earthquake Relief by the CPC Central Committee, the State Council, and the Central Military Commission, and was received by state leaders including Hu Jintao and Xi Jinping and took photos with them. He was conferred by the College Students' Psychological Counseling Committee the Outstanding Contribution Award for Mental Health Education and 25-Year Contribution Award for Mental Health Education, and was conferred by the Adolescent Mental Health Committee the 30-Year Contribution Award. At the invitation of the State, he viewed the military parades on the 60th and 70th National Day of the People's Republic of China on the Tian'anmen reviewing stand.
