Recently, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) officially announced that the Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study, UCASwas approved as the supporting unit of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (registration code: 31002420B0053). HIAS will conscientiously perform the management responsibilities of the supporting unit of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, actively organize the application for various fund projects, and manage the ongoing projects in strict accordance with the relevant policies and regulations on fund management.
National Natural Science Foundation of China
The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) is the management unit of China's natural science funding, which is responsible for the organization and implementation of the national natural science funding plan, project setting and review, approval, and supervision. According to the types of funding, the national natural science funding is divided into exploration, talent, tools, and integration projects, including the General Program, Key Program, and Major Research Plan of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Funds for International Cooperation and Exchange of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Youth Science Fund Project, Outstanding Youth Science Fund, National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and Science Fund for Creative Research Groups of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
In order to build a world-class new teaching and research institution with Chinese characteristics and integrated development of science and innovation, HIAS actively expands the application channels for scientific research projects. This time, HIAS overcame many unfavorable factors such as the short establishment time and special initial conditions, and actively applied to be the supporting unit of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and succeeded under the guidance and assistance of the leaders of the University of Science and Technology of China, relevant departments and the host institute. HIAS will provide a broader platform for researchers to apply for national projects, and also offer more solid support for forward-looking and leading scientific and technological research and key generic technology research. It is expected that HIAS will make greater achievements in the application for NSFC projects in 2021.
