On December 5, the First Academic Committee Meeting of the School of Environment was successfully held. Experts and scholars from the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, Fudan University and other universities and research institutes gathered together to give suggestions for the development of the School of Environment.
Zheng Chonghui, Executive Vice Dean of HIAS, Jiang Guibin, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Dean of the School of Environment of HIAS, Chen Hongyuan, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of Nanjing University, and Zhu Lizhong, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor of Zhejiang University, among others, attended the meeting and delivered speeches. All members of the Academic Committee, faculty and students of the School of Environment attended the inauguration ceremony of the School of Environment and the Institute of Environmental Health. Zheng Chonghui briefly introduced the current development of HIAS before the chief professors of the professor's labs in the School of Environment gave work reports. He pointed out that the teaching and scientific research of HIAS are quickly on track and in order now. The teaching system and training program are in line with the headquarters of UCAS, and many academicians, outstanding young scholars and academic masters teach in the classroom. A Zhejiang Post-doctoral Research Station has been officially established in the school. At present, 70 postdoctoral fellows have entered the station to carry out research. The station has been approved as the supporting unit of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the first batch of provincial new R&D institutions in Zhejiang Province. The school has also undertaken its first Zhejiang Provincial Key R&D Project. Two laboratories have been listed as the key laboratory cultivation objects of Zhejiang Province for the first time, and various scientific research resources have been in place successively. Zheng Chonghui fully affirmed the establishment of the Academic Committee of the School of Environment, and hoped that the school can further establish the core position of the Academic Committee in the academic management system and organizational structure, and give full play to its functions of decision-making, deliberation, evaluation and consultation in academic affairs. The management system and mechanism of the school need to be further improved, so as to respect and support the independent work of the Academic Committee, and exercise its functions and powers. Efforts should also be made to raise the academic competence and level of the School of Environment to a new level.

Jiang Guibin pointed out that the School of Environment shoulders three missions: The first is to serve local economic development, environmental protection and ecological civilization construction. The second is to pay attention to scientific innovation. The most effective way to solve the problems in the process of China's development is to develop scientific undertakings and do a good job in technical research. The third is talent training. Students should give positive feedback in learning, and teachers should make continuous improvements in teaching to cultivate more talents useful to the country.

Chen Hongyuan gave students a sixteen-character maxim: "dig deep into the properties of objects, dare to be the first, be brave to climb, and be a man of selfless dedication", and hoped that students can realize their life value in Zhejiang, a land with beautiful scenery, and also contribute to the local development.

Zhu Lizhong, a native of Zhejiang Province, expressed his gratitude and congratulations to the group of Academician Jiang Guibin for coming to Hangzhou to carry out environmental health research. He hoped that Zhejiang University and HIAS could strengthen cooperation in teaching and scientific research. He also encouraged students to stay true to their original aspiration, keep their mission firmly in mind, get a good start, and be a "founder" of HIAS development. At the end of the meeting, Zhu Lizhong put forward several suggestions for the development of the School of Environment: clarify the characteristics of future development, and make full use of the advantages of talent policies in Zhejiang and Hangzhou. Wu Yongning, Chief Technical Engineer of the China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment, Chen Jianmin, professor of Fudan University, Chen Baoliang, professor of Zhejiang University, and Liu Qian, a research fellow of the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, congratulated the establishment of the Academic Committee of the School of Environment in their speeches, and encouraged students to study hard, devote themselves to scientific research, cherish opportunities and be grateful.
Later, Jiang Guibin read out the list of members for the first Academic Committee and issued certificates to the newly elected director, deputy director and members of the Academic Committee. Professor Zheng Minghui, Executive Dean of the School of Environment, reported on the development and work progress of the school, and stressed that the school should "serve Zhejiang, influence the whole country, and develop into a highland in the field of environmental health". Since the establishment of the School of Environment, all its faculty and students have been working together and motivated to make great efforts in basic scientific research and scientific and technological transformation, and have made the following exciting achievements: The school has successfully applied for the first Zhejiang Provincial Key R&D Project of HIAS in 2021 (Special Project for Environmental Protection and Resource Recycling in the Field of Social Development), and two projects of its postdoctoral fellows have received the funding from the General Program of the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation. The successful conclusion of the first Academic Committee Meeting has also opened a new chapter in the construction and development of the school, and it will point out the direction for future academic research.
