The School of Environment will be oriented to the international frontier of tackling environmental pollution and health as well as to the important national demand of regional environmental pollution control. It undertakes three major tasks, i.e., basic research for application, training of professional personnel and transformation of scientific and technological achievements. The goal is to build a hub for talents on environmental pollution and health research, for technology transformation of environmental pollution control and health industry, for international cooperation in environmental science and health-related fields.

The school will set up the Institute of Environment and Health, the Institute of Qiandao Lake Water Environment, the Research Center for Analysis and Testing and the Training Center for Continuing Education. At the initial stage of the school construction, the personnel are mainly those fromtheState Key LaboratoryofEnvironmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology holding part-time jobs here. After 3-5 years of development, the school will adopt a gradually transition to its own talents by recruitment and cultivation as the core of the scientific research teaching team.
The School of Environment, based in Hangzhou, will grow with national and global impact. Conducting in-depth and systematic research in environmental pollutant analysis technology, environmental process control, and toxicological and health effects, it strives to make major breakthroughs in three major directions: environmental analysis and process mechanism of new pollutants, toxicology and human health, pollution control and health protection technologies.
