The School of Chemistry and Materials Science, based on the research foundation of the CAS Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry and CAS Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, in accordance with CAS’s “1-3-5” plan, is oriented to the global scientific frontier, to the major national needs and the main arena of regional economy. It focuses on the national strategic needs, prioritizes building and developing four research centers for green chemistry, advanced organic materials, advanced inorganic materials and advanced medicine. By means of integrated development of science, education and innovation, it seeks to play an exemplary and leading role in the fields of chemistry and materials science, such as cutting-edge academic challenges, tackling key technical problems, making breakthroughs in industrial applications and training innovative talents.
Based on the School of Chemistry and Materials Science, we form a faculty with high academic level, good teaching effect and advanced educational concept in the field of chemistry and materials science.We build a high-quality postgraduate curriculum system with original teaching materials and excellent teachers as the core to cultivate high-level talents with international competitiveness in the field of chemical science. We build a research and development hub in the fields of green chemistry, advanced materials and advanced medicine, thus making substantial contributions to turning the Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study, UCAS, into a first-class university in China and developing UCAS into a world-class university with unique characteristics.
Center for Green Chemistry
The research focus of the Center for Green Chemistry is to develop efficient, economical and practical catalytic reactions to achieve efficient and environmentally friendly molecular precise synthesis. The center will achieve breakthroughs and innovations in chemical theory, develop innovative green synthesis processes for important drug and pesticide molecules, and thereby upgrade the chemical manufacturing industry.
Center for Advanced Organic Materials
The Center for Advanced Organic Materials focuses on the fundamental research of molecular science and the creation of macromolecular compound with new structures and properties through the development of unique catalysts. It provides special materials and products with unique but different functions.
Center for Advanced Inorganic Materials
The research focus of this center is to start with the basic research of inorganic materials and then conduct research on the composition and structure design, molding and preparation technology, related properties and mechanism of advanced inorganic materials, to establish new methods of design and evaluation for advanced inorganic materials, and to develop advanced inorganic materials and devices.
Center for Advanced Medicine
The research focus of this center is to start with basic research at the chemical biology, to explore the molecular mechanisms of life processes and disease development, and to look for active compounds that detect and regulate disease processes, to carry out the medical research of source innovation.
