Li Jinsong, serves as Chief Professor at School of Life and Health Sciences. He is an Academician at Chinese Academy of Sciences, a researcher fellow of Center of Molecular Cell Excellence of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Director of Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences.

He has been engaged in research related to stem cells and embryonic development. He led his team to develop mouse androgenetic haploid embryonic stem cells, and proved that the type of stem cells with similar function of sperm can be used in producing healthy mice after fertilizing eggs. He and his team used sperm-like stem cells carried with CRIPSR-Cas9 system to achieve individual-level genetic screening of mice. Additionally, he has proposed to set up a genome tagging project based on sperm-like stem cell technology. He has published more than 60 research papers inCell,Nature,Cell Stem Cell,Nature Cell Biologyand other journals as the first author or corresponding author.

His notable research outcomes have been included in the eighth editionMolecular Cell Biology. In addition, he was selected as a candidate of China's Top 10 Scientific Advances in 2011 and 2012 respectively. He was granted the first prize of Shanghai Natural Science Award in 2017. He has won many awards such as the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the Young and Middle-aged Leading Talents in Scientific and Technological Innovation, the National Expert of Ten Million Talents Project of the Ministry of Personnel, the Youth Innovation Award of Science and Technology Innovation of the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Prize, China Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award, the Innovation Award of the C.C. Tan Life Science Awards, and the Shanghai Youth Science and Technology Outstanding Contribution Award.
