Yu Biao, serves as Executive Dean of the School of Chemistry and Materials Science. He is an Academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), a researcher fellow of Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences,Director of the State Key Laboratory of Organic Chemistry, Chairman of the Carbohydrate Chemistry Committee of the Chinese Chemical Society, and a representative of the International Carbohydrate Organization (ICO) in China. He also serves as an Editorial Review Board member of 7 international professional journals and Associate Editor-in-Chief ofChinese Journal of Chemistry.
He has been engaged in the research in fields such as complex glycans and glycoconjugates with important physiological activities, and his research group has taken the lead in completing the synthesis of a series of natural glycoconjugates with significant physiological activities, novel but complex structures. Additionally, he has shed light on the activity mechanism of glycoconjugates in collaboration with exceptional biologists. His two glycosidation methods are praised as one of the three milestones for catalyzing glycosidation and the Yu Glycosidation. He has nearly 300 publications, and hasobtained 24 authorized patents and implemented 7 patents. He has won many awards such as Shanghai Youth Science and Technology Outstanding Contribution Award, the Natural Science Peony Award of STCSM, the second prize of National Natural Science Award, Eli Lilly Asia Outstanding Scientific Research Award, Zhang Shuzheng Outstanding Achievement Award in Glycoscience, Humboldt Research Award and Roy L. Whistler Award in Carbohydrate Chemistry, among others.
