Dr. Wu is a theoretical physicist, director of the UNESCO International Center for Theoretical Physics (Asia Pacific), and a chief scientist in the gravitational wave-detection space Taiji program. He received a doctorate degree from the Theoretical Physics Institute of the CAS in 1987. From 1987 to 1996 he was engaged in theoretical research in elementary particle physics and quantum field theory at the universities of Dortmund and Mainz in Germany as well as Carnegie Mellon and Ohio State universities in the U.S. He was previously director of theInstitute ofTheoretical Physics,CAS, director of theKavli Institute for Theoretical Physics,CAS, and the director of theState Key LaboratoryofTheoretical Physics. He is the chief scientist of a 973 project involving “theoretical research and pre-experimental study on dark matter and dark energy” under the Ministry of Science and Technology, academic leader of the Outstanding Youth Foundation and innovative project on “deep structure of matter and very early evolution of the universe”. He is the chief scientist in the Taiji program,a category-A national strategic pilot project.
