On the morning of August 18, the demonstration meeting for the construction plan of the School of Molecular Medicine of the Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study (HIAS), University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), was held in Hangzhou. The meeting was attended by the field expert group composed of Li Lanjuan, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the State Key Laboratory for Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, Fan Chunhai, a CAS member and professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Cheng Jinke, Dean of Shanghai Jiao Tong University College of Basic Medical Sciences, Huang Feihe, professor of Zhejiang University, and Wang Jianan, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, the management expert group composed of relevant heads of the Hangzhou Municipal People's Government and CAS, as well as Wang Jianyu, a CAS member and President of HIAS, Ma Lisong, Secretary of the Party Committee of HIAS, Zheng Chonghui, Executive Vice President of HIAS, Tan Weihong, a CAS member and Dean of the HIAS School of Molecular Medicine, Fang Xiaohong, Executive Dean of the HIAS School of Molecular Medicine, and chief professors of the school lab. President Wang Jianyu presided over the meeting.
Wang Jianyu first extended a warm welcome to the participants and introduced HIAS briefly. On behalf of the School of Molecular Medicine, Executive Dean Fang Xiaohong introduced the construction plan of the school from seven aspects: the necessity of school construction, strategic positioning and construction objectives, work foundation and advantages, organizational structure, talent team, graduate students' curriculum system, and resources needed at the initial stage of construction.
The expert groups fully affirmed the orientation and significance of building the School of Molecular Medicine, exchanged their views on the research development, discipline setting, scientific research platforms, development goals, and talent training of the school, carried out thorough discussions on the setting of operating funds and introduction of double-employed personnel, and put forward valuable suggestions on the close combination of basic research and clinical application, industry-university-research transformation, further cooperation with universities and enterprises, and resource integration.
Academician Tan Weihong expressed heartfelt thanks to the experts and leaders present, saying that with the strong support of the Hangzhou government, HIAS and the UCAS Cancer Hospital, the School of Molecular Medicine will develop vigorously. The meeting was a success, which means that the CAS Institute of Basic Medicine and Cancer is speeding up the process of science-education integration and talent training, and measures for industry-university-research-medicine integration have entered the "fast lane".

The School of Molecular Medicine is jointly established by the Institute of Basic Medicine and Cancer and the Institute of Chemistry of CAS. Adhering to the UCAS educational concept of "science and education integration, collaborative education, innovative practice, and serving society", the school features interdisciplinary comprehensive research and places equal emphasis on basic research and clinical application. Focusing on major national strategic goals and core scientific issues of molecular medicine, the school will carry out basic research and translational medicine research guided by clinical demands, develop precision medical diagnosis, treatment and prevention and control methods at the molecular level, explore multi-subject collaborative education and innovative research and achievement transformation mechanisms, build a national leading hub for medical talent introduction and cultivation and scientific research with international influence in the new era, and vigorously promote the development of relevant biomedical industries.
