On the afternoon of September 4, the First Plenary Meeting of the First Teaching Committee of the Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study (HIAS), University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), was held in Conference Room 215, Building 9, Yunyi Campus Area. All 17 members of the Teaching Committee attended the meeting. Six members, including Academician Wang Jianyu, President of HIAS and Chairman of the Teaching Committee, Professor Zheng Chonghui, Executive Vice President and Vice Chairman of the Teaching Committee, and Professor Dai Ning and Professor Wu Jiarui, Deputy Directors of the Teaching Committee, were physically present at the meeting, and 11 others including Geng Chaoqiang attended the meeting online. Ma Lisong, Secretary of the Party Committee of HIAS, was also present at the meeting, and Wang Jianyu presided over the meeting.
Ma Lisong announced the list of members of the Teaching Committee, Wang Jianyu presented letters of appointment to the five members present, and Zheng Chonghui reported to all members on the progress of teaching preparation.
Wang Jianyu said that since HIAS has been incorporated into the campus-concentrated teaching of UCAS, it should carry out teaching according to the standards of campus-concentrated teaching. He hoped that all schools would understand it. Meantime, he thanked all members for their support for HIAS's teaching work and urged the Academic Affairs Department to carry out the work related to graduate students' course selection as soon as possible.
According to Zheng Chonghui, since it was decided to carry out postgraduate education and training in HIAS in April, the teaching preparation team has started to investigate the teaching organization mode of the units engaged in affiliated recruitment and actively interacted with the postgraduate education management department of UCAS to incorporate HIAS's teaching work into the campus-centralized teaching of UCAS. It has also set up courses in strict accordance with the requirements of campus-centralized teaching, adopted the curriculum filing system of UCAS, and implemented the curriculum supervision and evaluation system of UCAS. So far, UCAS has assigned eight experienced teachers to participate in HIAS's teaching work in the fall semester. In addition, Zheng Chonghui also focused on the overall situation of the curriculum of specialized courses and public courses, and stated that HIAS has made sufficient preparations in terms of hardware and financial conditions.
On behalf of their schools, Ma Yongliang, Dai Ning, Yu Biao, Wu Jiarui, Luo Cheng, Zheng Minghui and Song Jie reported on the framework, composition of teachers, curriculum arrangement in the fall semester, and trial teaching by new teachers of specialized courses offered. Schools have selected front-line researchers with outstanding scientific research achievements and rich teaching experience to form a teaching team. In the fall semester, more than 100 teachers, including Academician Wang Jianyu, Academician Jiang Guibin and nearly 30 scholars supported by the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars, will walk onto the podium to teach the first graduate students.
The Academic Affairs Department reported on the public courses offered and composition of the teaching team, special courses offered, class suspension and switching rules, teaching workload, and teaching allowance standards, and the members put forward constructive opinions and suggestions.
