From June 6 to 8, 2021, the 1st National Workshop on Non-target Analysis of Environmental Pollutants was held in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province. It was sponsored by the Environmental Chemistry Committee of the Chinese Chemical Society and the Environmental Chemistry Branch of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, and undertaken by Shanxi University, the School of Environment of Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study (HIAS), UCAS, Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and the State Key Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology.
Held in a hybrid modality, the workshop was attended by nearly 100 experts and scholars from domestic universities and research institutes. Zhang Haiyan, Jin Rong, etc. attended the workshop as teacher representatives of HIAS's School of Environment. Prof. Wang Yanglin, Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanxi University, met with Academician Jiang Guibin and some representatives before the meeting. Prof. Sang Nan of Shanxi University presided over the opening ceremony, and Prof. Liang Jiye, Vice President of Shanxi University, and Academician Jiang Guibin delivered speeches. Zheng Minghui, research fellow of Environmental Chemistry Committee presided over the reports session. In order to encourage young scholars to have extensive exchanges and play the leading role, 6 invited reports by young scholars and 25 short reports were made, and expert comments and free speech sessions were arranged.
Non-target analysis of environmental pollutants is a new research direction and frontier of global environmental sciences in recent years. Experts and scholars at the meeting had in-depth discussions on the discovery methods of new pollutants, target and non-target analysis, and pollution toxicity effect analysis, and put forward suggestions and opinions on the application and promotion of new pollutant screening technology, effect-oriented non-target analysis, and the unification of terms related to non-target. At the end, Academician Jiang Guibin made a summary and spoke highly of the reports by young scholars and the positive interaction of experts.
In response to the major needs of strengthening the control of new pollutants in the 14th Five-Year Plan, the successful holding of this meeting not only promoted the academic exchanges on non-target analysis of environmental pollutants in China, but also pointed out the direction for the future development of this field in screening new pollutants.
