Recently, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) announced its funding decision on received applications in 2021. Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study (HIAS), UCAS submitted a total of77 programs for NSFC funding, of which23 programs were approved, with afunding rate of 29.87%.Among them, postdoctoral fellows applied for 55 programs asproject leaders, and 19 were approved, with a funding rate of34.55%.This isthe first time for HIAS toapply for NSFC funding and be approved, marking amilestone in the scientific research and development of HIAS.
Previously, HIAS attached great importance to the organization of the first application for NSFC funding. In order to stimulate the enthusiasm of scientific researchers for application, the Scientific Research and Platform Management Department organized a mobilization meeting and training session. Not only management experts were invited to introduce the funding system and the funding information in previous years, but also experts with rich experience in fund application and review were invited to expound on the main points of writing applications. Every application was carefully reviewed to ensure quality and compliance with requirements.

EstablishSchools of Interdisciplinary Research for Scientific Development
Over the past year since its establishment, HIAS, UCAS have built8 schools of interdisciplinary research focusing onPhysical Information,Life Health andIntelligent Technology. Each school takes the professor lab as the basic unit of scientific research. Withacademicians, outstanding young scientists and other top talents at home and abroad as the chief professors, the members of a professor lab include 2 to 3 national backbone young talent such as "Four Types of Young Talent". There are59 professor labs in operation.
Grow out of Nothing and Be Stronger with Scientific Research Platform
Since its establishment, HIAS has laid out a scientific research platform with schools as the center and theprofessor labs as the basis.With the research groups, basic conditions for scientific research, research instruments and equipment, the scientific research platforms have begun to take shape. There are now25 platforms of interdisciplinary research.Among them, theKey Laboratory of Gravitational Wave Precision Measurement of Zhejiang Province andthe Key Laboratory of Systems Health Science of Zhejiang Province have been included in theprogram for the cultivation and construction of key laboratories in Zhejiang.
Strive for Steady Growth with Scientific Research Funds from Zero to RMB 100 Million
Scientific research funds are one of the symbols of innovation vitality and competitiveness of research institutes.HIAS has been approved as aprovincial new R&D institution and aZhejiang Post-doctoral Research Station, as well as as a supporting unit forprograms funded by NSFC,National Science and Technology Plan Projects,programs funded by Zhejiang Provincial Natural Science Foundation, andZhejiang Science and Technology Projects.
In addition, HIAS strives for active enterprise cooperation to gives full play to its academic advantages, participates in local economic construction, and provides technical services for domestic and foreign enterprises such as China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC), Huawei and Yunnan Tin Group (Holding) Company Limited, with34 signedhorizontal projects.
Make Scientific Research Achievements for Continuous Progress and Strong Influence
As of August 2021, HIAS has published a total of721 high-level papers, including340 papers in CAS Zone 1 and202 papers in CAS Zone 2. With HIAS as the first author or corresponding author, there are39 papers published intop international journals such asNature, Science, Advanced materials, Cancer Celland joule.
