On the evening of October 24, on the main stage of the 5th Hangzhou International Future Life Festival, a grand awarding ceremony for "Double Thousand Science Popularization Base for Double Reduction" was held.Lu Jin, Member of the Leading Party Group and Vice Chairman of Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology, awarded the certificate toZheng Chonghui, Member of the Party Committee and Executive Vice President of HIAS. This marked the official inclusion of Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study (HIAS), UCAS inanother new batch of "Double Thousand" Science Popularization Base for "Double Reduction" to promote science communication and scientific spirit.
In Zheng Chonghui's view, it is the duty and obligation for those of HIAS, UCAS to devote themselves to scientific and technological innovation and popularize scientific knowledge. In the future, we will take more diversified forms to popularize science to the masses, especially young students, integrate the spirit of scientists in the new era into patriotism education, and inject the spirit of "Two Bombs and One Satellite", the cultural foundation and spiritual support of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, into the Zhejiang culture, so as to promote a science-oriented society where all love, learn and use the science.
In theScience Release session, Wu Jiarui, Executive Dean of the School of School of Life and Health Sciences, HIAS, UCAS, gave a wonderful speech titled "Precision Health Research in the Era of Massive Health". This speech is also included in the HIAS Lecture of HIAS, UCAS. Citizens online and offline listened to it together with 60 HIAS postgraduates, with nearly 800,000 live views.
Wu Jiarui began his speech with a humorous sentence: "I have good news for you. We are going to live longer and longer." In ancient China,Emperor Qin Shihuang (the First Emperor of Qin) sent Xu Fu to the eastern seas to look for the elixir of life. Now we do not need that and we can even outlive him. But a coin has two sides, so does longevity. Wu Jiarui said that our body is like a car. It has a service life and will get sick after a long time. Everyone is afraid of tumors and senile dementia, and increasing age is the major risk factor for tumors and cognitive decline.
Some infectious diseases, like smallpox, have been eradicated. But chronic diseases, unlike infectious diseases, are more like eternal challenges to the human body. However, chronic diseases take a long time to develop. If we can take relevant measures at an early stage, we may be able to reverse the bad outcomes through early monitoring and intervention.
As China enters the era of big health, the"Healthy China 2030" Planning Outline tops health and places it in a strategic position for limited development, so as to achieve full health services and health protection from the fetus to the end of life. We used to pay too much attention to diseases themselves and only concern about how to cure them. But now we need to focus on our health and the whole process of chronic disease development from health, sub-health to clinical diagnosis. A new way to fight against chronic diseases-"prevention". That is to realize early detection, early intervention, and always pay attention to one's own physical health. Big data enables us to master our own physical conditions without focusing on a single disease and realize the whole chain of health research.
The Key Laboratory of Systems Health Science of Zhejiang Province, where Wu Jiarui works, focuses on "early monitoring and early warning technology for health status" and "early intervention and management technology for health status". It is through the big data platform of healthcare that the laboratory realizes the technical path of precision health.So far, the research project has been carried out under the cooperation of several universities in Zhejiang Province. They collect biological information and monitor health status through big data and then propose diagnostic schemes.
People's health is the foundation of social civilization progress, an important symbol of national prosperity and strength, and the common pursuit of the general public.Wu Jiarui said that to realize the transformation from "disease-centered" to "health-centered" new ecosystem, we need to conduct early monitoring and early intervention, establish a community system for health management of individuals throughout their life cycle, and create a health security system that can support the needs of the whole society and individuals for health maintenance costs. And HIAS, UCAS will certainly make its due contribution to this revolutionary change.
It is understood that HIAS, UCAS established the HIAS Lecture at the very beginning of its establishment. Renowned entrepreneurs, famous artists and top experts in various fields of natural science were invited to give lectures, including the development of infrared technology since the founding of the People’s Republic of China by an academician in his eighties, and scientific expedition to the top of the world by a scientific worker who reached the summit of Mount Everest. They are all committed to spreading knowledge, broadening horizons and leading thinking. Over the past year, HIAS Lecture has carried out nearly 40 activities through live webcasts and publicity groups going out of the campus tocarry forward the spirit of science, spread scientific thoughts, advocate scientific methods, give back to the society and share resources for science education.
