Academician Jiang Guibin from the School of Environment Wins "Chen Yaozu Outstanding Achievement Award in Organic Analysis" by CCS

党健鹏

On October 17, 2021, the 21st National Conference on Organic Analysis and Bioanalysis of the Chinese Chemical Society (CCS) was held in Changsha. Sponsored by the Organic Analysis Committee of CCS and Hunan Normal University, the conference, themed by "Challenges and Opportunities of Organic Analysis and Bioanalysis in the New Situation", summarized the new achievements and progress in recent years and discussed the key development directions in the research field. At the opening ceremony, the "Chen Yaozu Outstanding Achievement Award in Organic Analysis" was presented. Academician Jiang Guibin was awarded this honor for his significant and long-term contribution to the theory and analytical methodology for identification of novel environmental organic pollutants

Academician Jiang's research fields involve chemical speciation, analytical instruments, environmental processes and toxicology, environmental applications and effects of nanomaterials, etc. With comprehensive advancement in the research on persistent toxic pollutants in China, he has presided over the first national 863 Program for the research on environmental endocrine disruptors in China, the first national 973 Program for the research on persistent organic pollutants (POPs), and the first national program-supported project for the reduction and control of POPs. In addition, he opened up research directions for the discovery of new pollutants, comprehensively improved the level and international impact of POPs research in China in terms of theory, method, technology and control policy, and made outstanding contributions to the national implementation of international convention on POPs. Several new pollutants discovered by his research group, such as brominated flame retardants, perfluoroalkyl compounds and benzotriazole UV absorbers, have been included in the risk management list and international common analytical methods of theStockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants. This successful model has triggered international peers to follow suit, and the screening and identification of novel organic pollutants has become a hot topic in the field of international environmental science. He also proposed and developed the world's first group toxicology analyzer system, providing a powerful tool for high-throughput screening and toxicity evaluation of targeted and non-targeted biological toxicity/effector compounds such as environment, food and traditional Chinese medicine.
