On November 3, the "1+2 Cooperation Agreement" signing ceremony between Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study (HIAS), UCAS and Zhejiang Lab was held at Zhejiang Lab Nanhu Headquarters. The two parties officially signed theComprehensive Cooperation Agreement between Zhejiang Lab and HIAS, the Agreement between Zhejiang Lab and HIAS in Building the Research Institute of Intelligent Perception Together, and theAgreement between HIAS and Zhejiang Lab in Building the School of Intelligent Science and Technology.
Jointly Build the National Strategic Scientific and Technological Force through Comprehensive Co-construction and Sharing
Taking the innovation of systems and mechanisms as a breakthrough, the two sides will carry out basic theoretical research, core technology research, promotion and application in intelligent perception, intelligent computing, and other related fields, jointly build science and education units such as the School of Intelligent Science and Technology, the Research Institute of Intelligent Perception and the Advanced Computer Research Center, and jointly develop major scientific devices and scientific research platforms. That is how the two will improve the ability to independently innovate and lead innovation to make joint efforts to build a national strategic scientific and technological force and provide important support for Digital China and the smart society.
Focus on Intelligent Perception to Build a "Pillar of the Country"
The two sides will focus on the research fields related to intelligent perception, integrate domestic and foreign superior scientific research forces, and carry out basic theoretical research and research in key core technologies and processes. The two will build major scientific and technological infrastructure, establish an efficient technology and industrial ecosystem of intelligent perception, achieve a number of scientific and technological achievements featuring significant international influence and social and economic benefits, and build a world-class research base, a technology innovation platform and a gathering place for international high-end talents in intelligent perception.
Explore the Talent Cultivation Mode Featuring Science-education Integration and Collaborative Innovation
The two sides will jointly build HIAS’s School of Intelligent Science and Technology. Centering on the major national needs and the economic and social development demands of Zhejiang, the two will cultivate a number of outstanding talents in artificial intelligence, intelligent system structure, and intelligent software, and build a comprehensive school integrating "education, scientific research, and industrial development". As of July 2021, the School of Intelligent Science and Technology has completed the first postgraduate enrollment, with a total of 50 postgraduate and doctoral students being enrolled.
At the meeting, Zhu Shiqiang, Director of Zhejiang Lab, awarded Wang Jianyu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of HIAS, the letter of appointment for the chief scientist in intelligent perception. Wang Jianyu said that the signing ceremony is not only a concentrated embodiment of the phased achievements of cooperation between the two sides, but also an important measure to jointly implement a higher level of scientific and technological self-reliance and self-improvement. HIAS will effectively integrate the advantages of technology, platform, and talent, work together with Zhejiang Lab to tackle difficulties, and strive to lead the breakthrough of key core technologies in intelligent computing. Moreover, it will jointly build a high-quality talent training system for masters and doctors and foster a number of transformative high-tech technologies that can drive industrial upgrading, so that more scientific and technological achievements can be transformed and implemented in Hangzhou, Zhejiang to facilitate the digital reform of Zhejiang Province.
