Zhang Pan

Zhang Pan is a research fellow and doctoral supervisor at the Institute of Theoretical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is a double-employed professor at the School of Fundamental Physics and Mathematical Sciences of Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study, UCAS.

September 2000-July 2004: He studied at Lanzhou University for a bachelor's degree in Theoretical Physics.

September 2004–July 2009: He studied at Lanzhou University for a Ph.D. degree in Theoretical Physics.

October 2009-January 2012: He worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Politecnico di Torino in Italy.

February 2012-May 2013: He worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the E.S.P.C.I. Paris in France.

May 2013-September 2015: He worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Santa Fe Institute in the United States

September 2015-December 2018: He was an associate research fellow at the Institute of Theoretical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

January 2019-Present: He is a research fellow at the Institute of Theoretical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

His research interests include the crossover research of statistical physics, machine learning and quantum computing, and he has put forward an unsupervised machine learning model based on tensor networks, a statistical mechanics method based on neural networks, and a new classical simulation method for quantum computers. Zhang Pan has published dozens of academic papers, including those published in top journals of physics such asPRX, PRL,andPNAS,as well as NeurIPS (NIPS), the top conference on machine learning.
