Feng Yan

Feng Yan, born in March 1974, is a research fellow and doctoral supervisor at the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics (SIOM), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He received his DSc degree from Nankai University in 2000, after which he began to do postdoctoral research at the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences and the University of Electro-Communications, respectively. From 2005 to 2009, he worked as a laser physicist at the European Southern Observatory in Munich, Germany. He joined SIOM in 2010, since which he has been mainly researching precision fiber laser technology and its applications. He has conducted pioneering and systematic research on Raman fiber lasers, sodium guide star lasers, and nonlinear fiber optics technology. He has published more than 100 academic papers inLaser and Photonics Reviews,Optics Letters,Scientific Reportsand other journals, edited theRaman Fiber Lasers, an English monograph, and delivered dozens of invited presentations at important international academic conferences, like Photonics West, CLEO, CLEO PR. Reports on his research have been made by the international media in the laser industry, such asLaser Focus World, China Science Daily, and Optics.org, more than 10 times. He has received many awards, like Germany's Berthold Leibinger Innovationspreis, the CAS Excellent Supervisor Award, and the Returned Overseas Chinese Contribution (Innovative Talent) Award.
