School of Physics and optoelectronic Engineering

Xu Weiming

Xu Weiming, male, born in Wuhan, Hubei province in November 1977, graduated from the Department of Physics, Beijing Normal University in 2000. After receiving his Ph.D. degree from the Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics (SITP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 2005, he chose to stay and work for SITP. He is now a research fellow and doctoral supervisor of SITP.

Currently, he is mainly dedicated to research on space active photoelectric technologies and systems, including space laser ranging and imaging detection technology, laser coherent detection technology, laser point cloud image processing technology and laser-induced breakdown plasma spectroscopy technology. His research mainly involves optics and electronics and is focused on the design and application of high-sensitivity optoelectronic systems. In recent years, he has mainly undertaken the research tasks of major national engineering projects, like laser three-dimensional imaging obstacle avoidance radars and laser ranging and speed measurement radars for the Chinese Lunar Exploration Program, and laser spectral detection instruments for the Mars Exploration Project. Meanwhile, he is the leader of many pre-research projects. He was granted the First Prize of State Science and Technology Advancement Award, the First Prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award, the First Prize of Shanghai Technological Invention Award, and the Outstanding Team Award of CAS. He was also evaluated as one of the Fifth Outstanding Young Scientific and Technological Innovators of CAS Shanghai Branch, and awarded the 2019 Zhao Jiuzhang Award for Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Scientists and the title of "Outstanding Contributor to Chang'e-4 Mission of the Chinese Lunar Exploration Program".
