Xu Gangyi, male, is a doctor, doctoral supervisor and research fellow supported by the 100 Talents Project of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He received his doctor's degree in Condensed Matter Physics from Lanzhou University in 2000, From 2000 to 2007, he served as a postdoctoral and associate researcher at the Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he was engaged in mid-infrared quantum cascade laser research. He worked as a visiting scholar at the Technical University of Munich, Germany in 2004 and 2005. From January 2008 to June 2013, he worked for Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), France as a researcher in the fields of photonic crystal semiconductor lasers, terahertz semiconductor lasers, and surface plasmons. Since July 2013, he has become a researcher at the Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
He has accumulated a certain degree of research experience in mid-infrared and terahertz band semiconductor lasers, photonic crystals, and surface plasmons. His main academic achievements include: 1) China's first distributed feedback quantum cascade laser using room-temperature stimulated emissions, with the laser threshold reaching the international advanced level; 2) the world's first two-dimensional photonic crystal quantum cascade laser operating at room temperatures; 3) the first in the world to put forward the concept of a gradient photonic heterojunction resonant cavity, and the developer of a high-power terahertz quantum cascade laser; 4) the first in the world to put forward and realize the monolithic integration of terahertz quantum cascade lasers and amplifiers. He has published more than 50 SCI papers inNature Commun.,Optica,Appl. Phys. Lett.,Phys. Rev. Band other international academic journals, receiving more than 700 citations. He delivered many invited presentations at international academic conferences and gave lectures to doctoral students in international summer schools. He has 5 authorized national invention patents. Currently, he is undertaking the projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Key R&D Program and the pre-research projects at the CAS and national levels.
