In 1995, Hu Ronggui graduated from the Department of Biology, Anhui Normal University with a Bachelor of Science degree. In August 2000, he graduated from the Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology (SIBCB), CAS with a degree of Doctor of Science. From 2001 to 2006, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Alexander Varshavsky lab, Department of Biology, California Institute of Technology (Caltech). In 2006, he became a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Biology, Caltech. From 2006 to 2009, he received a grant from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine to study the regulation of protein degradation system during stem cell development. Since July 2009, he has established and led the research group of protein homeostasis regulation and molecular recognition at the Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, CAS.
