Zhao Fangqing

Zhao Fangqing, a doctor andresearch fellow,is a candidate for the 100 Talents Project of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He obtained his bachelor's degrees in Marine Biology and Computer Technology and its Applications from Qingdao Ocean University (present the Ocean University of China) in 2001. He graduated from the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences with a Ph.D. degree in Evolutionary Genomics of Marine Microalgae in 2006, during which he won the 2006 CAS President Special Award. He was also granted the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award of CAS in 2007 and the first prize of National Ocean Science and Technology Award in 2012. From July 2006 to the end of 2010, he did research on Computational Biology andGenomics at the Center for Comparative Genomics and Bioinformatics, the Pennsylvania State University, the USA.In October 2010, he was employed by the Beijing Institutes of Life Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences as aresearch fellow funded by the 100 Talents Project and his research interest is computational genomics.He currently serves as Deputy Director of the Scientific Research Department at the Beijing Institutes of Life Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences,Secretary General of the Research Network of Computational Biology, and Vice Chairman and Deputy Secretary General of the Expert Committee for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, Chinese Society of Biotechnology.He is also an editorial board member of the three international bioinformatics journals —Briefings in Bioinformatics, Hereditas,andGenomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics.In 2012, funded by CAS's Cross-disciplinary Collaborative Teams Program for Science and Technology Innovation, he set up a cross-disciplinary collaborative team in Computational Genomics. He has undertaken three projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, one funded by the CAS Knowledge Innovation Program and one funded by theCAS President Special Award Fund.So far, he has published more than 40 academic papers in international journals on bioinformatics and genomics as the first/corresponding author.
